MATRIX-PRO: Mass data analysis: solutions for police investigative practice
The objective of the overall MATRIX-PRO project is to develop practical, modular, and legally compliant methodologies for analyzing and linking heterogeneous mass data from police investigations. The aim is to support security authorities in the efficient and legally sound evaluation of large volumes of data from various sources, while safeguarding fundamental rights, in order to effectively combat organized crime.
As part of the subproject, the University of Konstanz is responsible for the practice-oriented further development and implementation of an independent module for semantic text analysis, as well as for researching methods to ensure the explainability and traceability of complex analytical processes and their data representation across data pathways. Building on the results of PEGASUS and VIKING, existing approaches to text analysis will be improved, expanded through interactive visualizations, and combined with methods from the field of explainable AI (XAI). Particular emphasis will be placed on the traceability of intermodal data flows and user-friendly interfaces for investigators. The developed methods will be integrated into the overall MATRIX-PRO solution and tested and refined with users as part of hackathons and evaluation cycles.
